Welcome to the Homepage of the
Tübingen Delegation to the NMUN 2007

The National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference takes place in New York City once per year. It is the world's largest university level simulation of the UN. Hosting some 4,000 student delegates from around the world, this simulation of the U.N. seeks to familiarize participants with the daily reality of multilateral diplomacy, while fostering a deeper understanding of the United Nations' role in contemporary international politics.

At the 2007 NMUN (March 20-24, 2007) twenty-four participants from the University of Tübingen had the honor to represent the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. In addition, two delegates from Tübingen represented France in the Security Council. Read our Final Report to find out more about the 2007 delegation.

All delegates had the chance to get unique insights into the workings of the United Nations and came home knowing they participated in a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. One of the highlights was the closing ceremony, which took place in the Great Hall of the UN General Assembly. At that ceremony, the Tübingen Delegation was commended for their position papers and received an "Outstanding Position Papers Award".

In addition to the extensive press coverage the delegation received both from Germany and abroad, the German international TV station Deutsche Welle produced a film about the Tübingen delegates at NMUN. It aired worldwide on DW-TV on 25 March and can be viewed here (in German), alongside more press reports.

The six months leading up to the New York conference were filled with intensive political and organizational preparation. With the help of project directors Kristen Heim and Christian Stindt, the students managed to raise enough funds to pay for most of the expenses. In those six months, the delegation underwent a weekly workshop, several speech trainings, weekend training sessions and training simulations. In addition, the delegation went on a study trip to the UN in Vienna where they held discussions with officials of the UN and the ambassadors of Pakistan and France to the UN at Vienna. Furthermore, the students invited experts from outside Tübingen to discuss Pakistani foreign policy and conference diplomacy.

Moreover, the Tübingen delegation prepared for this challenging experience by attending a political science class on the United Nations system, held by Prof. Dr. Andreas Hasenclever, an internationally renowned scholar of International Relations, and his assistant Sophia Benz, M.A.

Exceptional Eleven-Year History
